If you are a woman and are interested in embarking into the world of bodybuilding than here a few female bodybuilding tips and fundamentals to help you along your path. First off, congratulations on your decision to pursue such an ambitious endeavor. The world of female bodybuilding is often very misunderstood by mainstream society because it is still very new to the average person. Bodybuilding can mean many things, but what it literally means a form of body modification involving intensive muscle hypertrophy . An individual who engages in this activity is referred to as a bodybuilder (Wikipedia) .
So basically, anyone who embarks in intensive muscle hypertrophy i.e. weight training can be technically considered a bodybuilder. This is a far cry from the stereotypical idea that all women who enjoy lifting weights are professional female bodybuilders. You don’t have to compete to be a female bodybuilder, you just have to have enough interest in the activity to carry you through what will be a very physically demanding pursuit. That being said, here are some tips for you to get started on the right foot.
Female Bodybuilding Tip #1 – Understand what your ultimate goal is.
Whether you are interested in professional bodybuilding, female fitness competition, bodybuilding for sports, or if its just a hobby, determining what you want to accomplish, i.e. the end goal will definitely have a huge impact on how you train. Its also important to have a genuine interest in the sport. Don’t start bodybuilding just because your boyfriend says so, or you think you’ll be more popular. Reasons like these will ultimately set you up for failure. Want it for yourself. Want it because it because its what’s in your heart. Want it because it’s a real challenge.
Female Bodybuilding Tip #2 - Read as much as you can about female bodybuilding.
Despite the stereotype that bodybuilders are “muscle heads” and are dumb, the truth is actually the exact opposite. Bodybuilders are smart! Whether your male or female, you must have a keen understanding of the human anatomy, body mechanics, food and diet, lifting weights properly, supplements, and having the right mindset. It may seem like a lot to know, but just take it bit by bit and try to learn something new each day. Start by understanding more about diet and how to lift weights properly, than as you progress, the other aspects will begin to be self evident. You can watch videos, read books, ask a personal trainer or even someone in the gym whom you admire. What ever course you decide to take, be curious, take notes, and never stop learning.
Female Bodybuilding Tip #3 - Take your baseline measurements.
Weight. Max lifts. Use a tape measure to determine your hip, waist, bust, and arms. Determine your resting metabolic rate (RMR). This basically the number of calories needed to conduct all of your basic bodily functions. Next calculate how many calories you burn throughout the day doing your typical daily activities. Than add between 400-500 calories to compensate for your physical exercises.
Female Bodybuilding Tip #4 – Take your time and don’t rush it.
Start off slow to allow time for not only your muscles to get use to the extra stress, but also your tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues to adjust. You should definitely feel the stress of the weight, but if it hurts, stop immediately and evaluate what the problem is. It could be that the weight is to much for you to lift. Your form could be wrong. Your muscles are already sore. It could be an old injury acting up. Ask for advice if the answer eludes you.
Female Bodybuilding Tip #5 - Pick a routine and stick to it.
Don’t bounce around from one fade diet to another or one in vogue workout program to another. Consistency always wins the race. Don’t get me wrong. Some programs just don’t work in which case making a switch would be the best choice of action, however don’t bounce around from program to program just because. If your new to bodybuilding than follow the beginner routine, not the advanced routine. Doing the ladder can lead to injury, loss of desire, and ample frustration. Remember that bodybuilding takes time so give yourself some.
